The Effects
The effects of pollution is a very serious concern, Global Warming is also a very serious concern.
What is Global Warming?
Global warming is an increase in the average temperature of the surface of the Earth (air and oceans) over the last 100 – 200 years.
Main affects of Global warming
The following three main indicators of global warming:
- Rise of air and ocean temperature,
- Rise of global sea level, and
- Loss of snow & ice cover
What is Global Warming:
Rise of Global Sea Level and Loss of Snow & Ice Cover
During the 20th century, the sea levels rose by 17 cm (6.7 inches); they rose faster in the 2nd half of this century than in the 1st.
It has been predicted that by the end of the 21st century the sea level may rise by further 18 to 59 cm (7 to 23 inches)
Loss of snow cover has been another indicator of climate change. Snow cover in the Northern Hemisphere declined by 4% between 1920 and 2005.

Greenhouse gases & the effects.
Greenhouse gases are the most common and well known forms of Climate change & the most common polluters in our environment. Global warming effects are leaving their mark on the planet as a whole, as well as on every plant, animal and ecosystem, in some way or another.
Northern Hemisphere
The Northern hemisphere will be the most affected by Global Warming. The greatest increase in the temperature is projected to occur over the polar region of Northern Hemisphere because:
- Melting of the sea and ice
- Northern Hemisphere will warm faster than Southern Hemisphere
- Greater warming over lands than over the oceans
More effects
- Droughts and floods in many areas
- Oceans are likely to continue to warm for 7 centuries because the greenhouse effects which have already taken place
Extreme Weather Events
Because of Global warming we will have to experience extreme weather events like these.
- Floods
- Droughts
- Heat waves
- Extreme winter cold and snow fall
- Tornadoes
- Extreme storms
- Tropical cyclones / hurricanes / typhoons
Global Warming Effects on Humans
As virtually all types of plants, animals and environmental ecosystems will be affected by warmer climate in some way or another, so will humans be affected by often unpredictable, global warming consequences.
Main resource WATER
Water makes up 70% of the human body’s chemical composition. It is therefore a resource without which we cannot exist.
This precious resource is now under serious threat from global warming.
By the middle of the 21 st century, water availability is to increase for sometime.
But the dry regions of the world will get even drier and will suffer severe droughts, especially southern Africa, Middle East, western North America and western Australia.

Help STOP the effects of Global Warming!
We can all relief the effects of Global Warming. Here are some ways of helping relief the effects of Global Warming!
- Plant trees - Planting Trees are one of the best ways to stop the effects of pollution & Greenhouse gases. Becasue they soak up CO2 known has Carbon Dioxcide, Which comes from cars, houses, factories & more.
- Take public transport- One of the most affordable and efficient way to get around town. If we all went by bus & if 1 person has 1 car, 6.5 billion cars would be off the road! That's heaps. It would also reduce congestion!
- Carpool - Carpooling is a really fun and enjoyable way to go somewhere with friends & family. It also reduces congestion and greenhouse gases!
